The Rainbow Girls Are A Dreamy Trio

Recently, Music Fan Magazine got to see Rainbow Girls perform live, supporting their third album "American Dream" at the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley, California.  I was unfamiliar with Rainbow Girls music and unsure what to expect, confirmed when Erin, Caitlin and Vanessa walked out on stage in matching white coveralls...(I'm old enough to remember Devo so had a bad flashback for a minute), but all concerns cast aside when the Rainbow Girls approached the microphone and lit into their set.

A little instrument warm up and chit chat with the crowd to start, lights came up and they began the set with some selections off their third studio album.  These girls are really really good!  Their vocal harmonies completely filled the room on songs like "American Dream" and what I think was "My Personal Legend".

Between songs they were conversive and gave the audiance a  backstory on many of their songs presented to the sold out crowd.  One intro was especially pointed and I'm glad I'm not the boy that hurt their feelings, but it did give them a great song in "Compassion to the Nth Degree", which was really smartly written and spoke directly to current things we all dislike!  Dang, that boy was stupid.

I was ashamed of myself that I had missed them on my new music radar, they hail form Northern California after all and have been playing as a group for a decade.  But hearing them on this night I know I will never miss another Rainbow Girls show when they come around again.

The show moved on through heartwarming songs that I sadly didn't know the name to, and they delivered more love, more melody and really great musicianship on the stringed instruments but I kept coming back to how loud their quiet voice was, if that makes sense.  What I mean is, on most songs their lyrics were delivered gently, like a dusting from a feather brush, which felt like a sprinkling of happy vibes each time they combined effort and sang together.  It was all real nice and it made a good atmosphere for everyone listening and swaying to their songs.

You can read more about them on their website rainbowgirlsmusic.com, and you probably should.  Get a Rainbow Girls vinyl album, download an electronic version, whatever you need to do to get their music in your head and experience something really great from three unassuming girls that just want the American Dream.
