Ocie Elliott
I first heard Ocie Elliott on Spotify about a year ago and I instantly dug their mellow vibe, deep lyrics and Jon Middleton’s raspy voice, so I was excited to hear they planned to stop at Ace of Spades in Sacramento recently.
Nolan Taylor
Day three of the Fairwell Festival and MFM got a chance to spend a few minutes with breakthrough country artist Nolan Taylor. Here's what happened:
Medium Build
Nick Carpenter talks putting your foot in your mouth on a first date, touring with Tyler Childers, and surviving an Alaska winter in his Chacos.
Two Runner
The first thing to know about duo Two Runner is that the name is not a reference to any type of athletic endeavor. Ok, we took some liberties with the headline, but the name is actually a nod to a partially broken-down Toyota 4 Runner (you’ll have to ask them to get the full story).
Cowboy Junkies
If you listened to music at all in the late 80s and early 90s, you’ve no doubt heard the Cowboy Junkies – perhaps their haunting cover of Lou Reed’s Sweet Jane, or the jaunty Anniversary Song (which made us realize how great a cowbell can sound even before the popular SNL skit told us we needed more of it).
Josiah & The Bonnevilles
I thought I'd never see someone live for the first time and immediately know it would never happen again, but it happened in Sacramento because Josiah and the Bonnevilles' sound is so distinctly American, so infectious and familiar, its clear an artist like this is never going to play a 300-person capacity bar again.
Natalie Merchant
We all know Natalie’s music because we have heard it on our radios since the mid 80s, especially when her former band 10,000 Maniacs released 1992’s “Our Time in Eden” and Natalie stretched that vocal gift on hits like “These Are The Days” and “Candy Everybody Wants.”
Noah Kahan
If you’ve turned on the radio any time in the last six months you’ve likely heard Noah Kahan’s hit songs “Dial Drunk” and “Stick Season” on repeat. You might be humming along without even knowing who the chill dude behind the catchy tune is, or how he popped up out of seemingly nowhere and took center stage on a world tour.
Gregory Alan Isakov & friends
Isakov’s velvety voice pairs wonderfully with his lyric-writing skills on songs like the haunting “San Luis”, “The Fall” and “Miles to Go.” When I say "haunting" I mean that goose bumps kind of feeling --something that rarely happens these days.
Lindsay Lou
Music Fan Magazine got turned on to Lindsay Lou’s sound just recently, seeing her name on the bill for Winterwondergrass events at Lake Tahoe and Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and we can’t get enough of it.
Sarah Kinsley
Part of Music Fan Magazine’s mission is to identify all the new up and coming artists, give them some attention in our publication and help promote the new music being developed by bands of all shapes and sizes across the country. Well, I must admit we don’t always get to all the bands and recently had someone slip under the MFM radar, but I couldn’t be happier to share the Sarah Kinsley experience with you now.
The Rainbow Girls
Music Fan Magazine got to see Rainbow Girls perform live, supporting their third album "American Dream" at the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley, California.
